More information

The aim of the Breast Screening Programme is to reduce mortality from breast cancer through early diagnosis of the disease by mammography.

This involves screening as many women as possible, examining the screening results, and referring the women for further treatment if any early warning signs are present.

All women between the ages of 50 and 70 are eligible for a free mammogram every three years.

Women aged 70 or over are not automatically called for screening but can make an appointment through their local screening unit.
