About this courseBy popular demand the UK NSC are facilitating further 'Screening Master Classes' led by public health screening expert Dr Angela Raffle. The classes are for staff within Public Health and Commissioning who are responsible for commissioning national screening programmes for their local populations. Screening Leads within NHS provider trusts may also find the day of value. Occasionally we are able to offer places to colleagues from other organisations with close affiliation to the UK NSC - please contact us to discuss this on a case by case basis. The day sessions cover the following topics; basic refresher on what screening is and is not, defining a high quality screening service, public health skills and tips for commissioning high quality screening programmes, identification of common problems and sharing of experiences, role and remit of the UK National Screening Committee and an overview of policy and practice of current NHS screening programmes. The days are interactive and use a mixture of teaching methods, including case studies and practical exercises. The case studies include; commissioning new services, assessing appropriateness and quality of services, accountability for screening services and managing clinicians and patient expectations. Questions and answers and sharing practice tips are slotted into the day appropriately. The UK NSC Director of Programmes, Dr Anne Mackie, will be available for part of the day, along with other programme staff to answer queries. Places are limited and will be allotted on a first come first served basis. A small fee is charged to cover the venue and catering. To book your place, contact Carol Wilkinson. Please note that you unless you cancel in plenty of time you will be charged if you don't attend (it is not possible to issue credit notes for future courses).
