Mental health is about how we think, feel and behave. One in four people in the UK have a mental health problem (or psychiatric illness) at some point in their lives, which affects their daily life, relationships or physical health.

Policy Position

Antenatal screening should be offered to women who have a history of psychiatric illness.

This policy was reviewed in Jul 2006 but no significant changes were made. It is due to be considered again in 2009/10, or earlier if significant new evidence emerges.
